Missing Timeline Creation Options When Starting from a Checklist

How to reset timeline creation from a checklist in Timeline Genius to restore the 3 starting options (Genius, Template, Reuse).

Updated today

Overview

When creating a timeline from a checklist, you should normally see three options to start:

  1. Genius Feature – Let Timeline Genius build a smart, customized initial timeline for you.

  2. Use a Template – Start from one of your saved templates or a preset template.

  3. Reuse a Timeline – Copy details from a previous event.

If you don’t see all three options, it’s likely because a timeline creation process was already started for that event and not completed.

Why This Happens

If you start one of the timeline creation paths (e.g., choose a template, start Genius Feature, or reuse a timeline) but exit before finishing, Timeline Genius saves your progress.

When you return, it reopens the same creation flow instead of showing the option selection screen again.

This behavior prevents you from losing work but can cause confusion if you expected to see the three starting options.

How to Reset and See All Options Again

If you want to start fresh and return to the option selection screen:

  1. From the partially started timeline creation screen, click “Cancel.”

  2. When prompted, select “Yes” to confirm the reset.

  3. You will be taken back to the screen where you can choose between Genius Feature, Use a Template, or Reuse a Timeline.

Tip

  • Resetting will clear the in-progress timeline creation flow for that event.

  • If you had already entered details, they will be lost — so make sure you only reset if you truly want to start over.

Example Scenario:

You start creating a timeline using the Use a Template option but realize you actually want to try the Genius Feature. Instead of only seeing the template flow when you return, click Cancel → Yes and you’ll get the three starting options back.
