To maintain accurate event timelines, Timeline Genius has built-in validation that prevents you from saving an invalid date range. Here’s how it works:

How Date Validation Works

When setting a date range for your event, the end date must always be after the start date. If you attempt to save a date range where the end date is on or before the start date, the system will prevent you from doing so and display an error message.

Error Message

If you enter an invalid date range, you will see the following error message, styled like our standard red error messages:

"Please enter an end date that is after the start date."

This message will appear immediately, prompting you to correct the date range before proceeding.

How to Fix the Date Range

  1. Check your dates: Ensure that the end date you’ve selected comes after the start date.

  2. Adjust the dates: Click on the end date field and select a date that is later than the start date.

  3. Save your changes: Once the dates are valid, you will be able to save your timeline or checklist without any issues.

Why This Validation Matters

This validation helps prevent scheduling errors and ensures your timeline reflects the correct sequence of events, which is crucial for effective event planning.

Example Scenario

  • Invalid Date Range Attempt: You set a start date of December 27, 2024, and you accidentally choose an end date of December 26, 2024 (the day before).

  • What Happens: The system will display the red error message: "Please enter an end date that is after the start date."

  • How to Resolve: Update the end date to a date after December 27, 2024.

FAQs

  • Can I have the same date for start and end if it's a one-day event? No, for a single-day event, simply use the single date format without specifying an end date.

  • What if I see the error and can't figure out why? Double-check both the start and end dates to ensure the end date is later. It’s easy to accidentally select the wrong year or month.
