Understanding Task Filters

Updated over a week ago

At Timeline Genius, we strive to make event planning seamless and stress-free. However, even the smartest tools can sometimes cause confusion, especially when it comes to features like task comments. One common issue we’ve noticed is users reporting that checklist comments from collaborators are missing. If you’ve encountered this, there’s a good chance it’s linked to your task filters. Let's break it down to avoid future confusion.

The Root of the Issue: Task Filters

When working with collaborators on checklists, comments are attached to specific tasks. But here’s the catch: comments will only appear if the associated tasks are visible in your current view. If you’ve applied filters—like showing only incomplete tasks—any comments linked to completed tasks will be hidden from sight.

For example, a planner reached out about missing checklist comments from her collaborator, the bride. Upon investigation, we discovered that the comments were there all along, but the planner had her view filtered to show only incomplete tasks. The bride's comments were on a task that had already been completed, so they didn’t show up under the current filter settings.

How to Ensure You See All Comments

To avoid this issue, here are a few quick steps to ensure you’re seeing all relevant comments:

  1. Check Your Task Filters:

    • Go to your checklist view.

    • Adjust filters to include all tasks—both completed and incomplete.

  2. Look for Comment Indicators:

    • A darkened speech bubble icon next to a task signals that comments exist.

    • If you see this but no comments are visible, double-check your filters.

  3. Refresh Your Page:

    • Sometimes updates from collaborators take a moment to appear. Either refresh manually or wait for the auto-refresh, which happens every 10 minutes.

  4. Verify Collaborator Activity:

    • In the Collaborate tab, a blue dot next to a collaborator's name indicates recent activity, including new comments.

Final Thoughts

Filters are powerful tools for keeping your workflow organized, but they can also unintentionally hide valuable information like comments. By ensuring your filters are set appropriately, you can stay on top of all collaborator feedback and keep your events running smoothly.
