If you’ve noticed that vendor details from previous timelines are carrying over into new projects, here are a couple of common reasons why this might be happening:
1. Editing vs. Replacing Contacts
When using a timeline as a template, it’s important to replace vendor contacts in each new timeline rather than editing the existing ones. Editing a contact in your template will change it everywhere that contact is used, including in new and previous timelines created from that template.
How to Fix It:
When starting a new project, delete or replace the existing vendor contact in the timeline and add the new contact instead of editing the old one.
This ensures that the original template remains unchanged for future projects.
2. Collaborator Access Settings
If you’ve given collaborators edit access to the vendor contact section, they might accidentally edit the template’s original vendor details instead of replacing them in their specific timeline.
How to Fix It:
Double-check your collaborators' access settings.
Encourage collaborators to replace vendor details rather than edit the ones already listed.
Remove edit access for collaborstors.
Note: They will not be able to add contacts themselves if you remove edit access. They will only be able to comment on the contact section.
Using Timeline Template Creation
Creating one of your own templates helps streamline this process. It allows you to save a clean, customized template that won’t accidentally carry over irrelevant details into new projects.
